TikTok Resumes is a new feature on the short-form video platform that lets companies find emerging employees using video resumes. These video resumes, created in the signature 15-60 second format that makes short-form videos on TikTok memorable, can highlight skills, qualifications and experiences of workers in a visual format — attuned to the needs and style of Generation Z workers. As employers start to use TikTok resumes, they're finding that they can increase their hiring pool of qualified workers by providing them a TikTok resume template to get started.
TikTok Resumes, launched in July 2021, connects brands directly to workers looking for jobs. Prospective employees can create a short video that showcases their work qualifications and experience, complete with video effects, music, text labels and other creative features popular on the video platform. Then, users can tag their video using #TikTokResumes, and can then submit that resume directly to brands on a site facilitated by TikTok. A handful of companies are already participating in the program — including Target, Shopify, the NBA, NASCAR, Forever 21, and Chipotle — and offer jobs ranging from entry-level to experienced.
To help prospective employees create resumes for TikTok, some brands are looking to offer TikTok resume templates to candidates. Using TikTok resume templates has some advantages: it can allow the candidate to focus on expressing their qualifications in the video without worrying about the mechanics of putting the video together. In addition, resume templates can widen your candidate pool as you simplify and accelerate the process for applicants. Finally. resume templates can spur additional ideas for candidates to express themselves as they look for and gain inspiration from others.
Picovideo has a library of TikTok-style templates that brands can provide to their candidates as they're looking to engage with emerging Generation Z workers. Workers can simply find a template that reflects their personal style; upload video when prompted about their skills and qualifications; and then fine-tune text labels, video effects, and other style elements that reflect their own personalities. Candidates then download the videos and then submit them through the TikTok Resumes service.
TikTok resumes are definitely different than traditional resumes. For one, because they're so short, candidates need to focus on the most relevant aspects of their experience. Second, because they're visual, they can give a different perspective on the candidate's job history and skills. As candidates are thinking about the different TikTok resume video templates to use, they're considering the following attributes that may make them more attractive to employers:
In sum, TikTok Resumes are great to widen your pool of candidates and start the conversation with them. Although they won't be able to give you a full picture of the candidate's skills, they can provide a different perspective as you get to know them initially, and then deepen the conversation with them through further interviews.
